The Health, Insurance, Portability and Accountability Act was enacted into law by Congress August 21, 1996.
HIPPA encompasses 3 major components:
1. Portability - health insurance reform provides continuous insurance coverage for workers who change jobs.
2. Accountability - significantly increases the government's fraud enforcement authority.
3. Administrative Simplification - establishes protections and standards for the storage, transmission; and handling of healthcare transactions.
HIPPA is a component of all training, service and partnership within our organization; managed directly by our Compliance Security and Privacy Officers. Alaska Billing Services works consistently and completely within the guidelines of this framework.
